The Money Decision Journal

Money fog is usually just unmade decisions. This is a five-line tool for closing them — the same one clients use in coaching. Name the decision, classify it, test whether it's reversible, pick a lens, decide and date it.

Print a copy per decision — or keep a stack for the weekly ritual. Ctrl+P (or Cmd+P) → "Save as PDF" is the download.

Sheet 1 — Before you decide

One decision per sheet. Fill it in pen — the slowness is the point.

1 · The decision, in one sentence

"Should I ___?" — if you can't write it in a line, you haven't found the real decision yet.

2 · Classify it
Habit Purchase Conversation Structure
3 · The door test

Two-way door = reversible, cheaply undone → decide fast, learn by doing. One-way door = hard to undo → slow down.

Two-way — decide today One-way — take 24–72h
4 · Pick one lens
Worst case — if it goes badly, can I absorb it? Regret — which choice would 80-year-old me back? Info — what single fact would settle this?
5 · State of mind right now

Tired, rushed or angry decisions get revisited. Note it honestly — if the box ticked is a bad one, sleep on it.

Calm Rushed Tired Stressed

Revisit on (30–90 days)

Sheet 2 — On revisit day

This is where the journal compounds. Decision quality ≠ outcome quality — grade the process, not just the result.

What actually happened?
What did I expect — and where was I wrong?
Was the door really one-way?

Most money decisions turn out to be two-way doors wearing a scary costume.

One rule for next time

Sheet 3 — The weekly ritual

15 minutes, Sunday. Same block every week — this is the habit the whole system stands on.

Every open money loop in my head — don't solve, just list
Open loops: ___ of them
The ONE I'm closing this week
